Last week’s episode ended on an extraordinarily sad note for Alfred Pennyworth fans: his old pal, Reginald Payne, stabbed him in the chest.
This week, “Everyone Has a Cobblepot” opens with Jim and Bruce at the hospital with Alfred. Jim asks Alfred if he knew who the attacker was, but Alfred covers Reginald’s tracks. Bruce follows suit and says that he didn’t see anyone. Jim gets a call and has to leave the hospital; Alfred decides he must also leave the hospital. Bruce, in a concerned and stern voice, which mimics Alfred’s general demeanor, demands that he stay in bed for the duration of his recovery.
Meanwhile, Fish meets the infamous Dr. Dulmacher, recall the “Dollmaker” character from the second episode in the season. Fish wants the Dollmaker to let her in on his master plan. She wants to climb her way to the top, just as she had before with Falcone. Her charisma and need for attention have not phased Dr. Dulmacher. She scooped out her own eye so he couldn’t have it! Speaking of eye-scooping: after their meeting, she removes the eye patch after he mentioned that he could not give her the same color she had before.
He replaced her hazel eye with a celestial blue eye. If her eyes didn’t have that piercing gaze before, she certainly does now.
Back at the GCPD, Jim and Harvey Bullock hear that Commissioner Loeb has exonerated Arnold Flass. Jim goes to Loeb, where the Commissioner shows the video of Jim’s own partner confessing to the presentation of false evidence regarding Flass; the corrupt detective arrested by Jim.
When Harvey is confronted, he tries to explain that the reason he did such an unspeakable thing because Loeb found a way to make Harvey cooperate. In plain words: Loeb has dirt on Harvey.
Jim recruits Harvey Dent to interrogate Loeb’s former partner. They are led to a bookie and become trapped by the situation, but Bullock saves the day. Bullock and Jim want to gain access to Loeb’s dirty secrets, so they reach out to Oswald Cobblepot, our resident dirt-keeper.
Once Bullock and Jim have the necessary details to take down Loeb, they go to him to strike a deal.
Jim will stay quiet under two conditions: 1) Bullock’s file is returned for safekeeping and 2) Jim gets unwavering support from the Commissioner to become the president of the Police Union. Power plays are the only method for success in Gotham.
